Ireland’s women’s cricket team secured a dramatic victory over England on Wednesday in a one-day international, marking their first win against England in 23 years. The match took place following a heavy loss for Ireland at the same venue earlier in the week, where they were bowled out for just 45 runs.
The third ODI, affected by rain and shortened to 22 overs per side, saw Ireland chasing a target of 153 runs set by England, who were bowled out despite a strong performance from Tammy Beaumont, who scored 52 off 42 balls.Ireland managed to reach 155-7, clinching the win on the last ball of the match. Alana Dalzell scored the decisive four as Ireland overcame a challenging final over bowled by Mady Villiers.
Aimee Maguire was instrumental in Ireland’s bowling attack, returning an impressive figures of 5-19.

Ireland’s captain, Gaby Lewis, who contributed 72 runs before her dismissal in the 19th over, stated, “We just tried to keep the camp in positive spirits. Cricket’s hard sometimes and obviously playing against top-quality nations, these kind of defeats are going to happen, but I think it’s the way we can bounce back and I think we did that brilliantly.”
England’s stand-in captain, Kate Cross, acknowledged Ireland’s superior performance by saying, “It’s been three good games of cricket. Credit to Ireland, I thought they were the better side today.”
