A final-round two-over 74 sees Colm Moriarty record a fifth-place finish at the PGA Professional Championship at Wales’ Conwy Golf Club.
Rounds of 69 and 70 saw the Glasson man in solo second position at the halfway stage, but back-to-back 74s on days three and four saw him slip to solo fifth place overall and receive a cheque for £2,240.
It was steady as she goes for Moriarty for 13 holes as he didn’t stray from par for over two-thirds of the round, but back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15 – the former a disappointing six on the par-5 – saw him fall out of a tie for third, but he went back to basics and parred his way home to sign off on what will be a satisfactory week overall, even if he’ll be a little disappointed with his closing rounds.
Tim Rice shot a closing one-over to finish on +6 overall in a tie for 15th alongside David Higgins who closed with a 74 and Sean O’Donoghue who took two more to finish with a 76.
Richard Kilpatrick finished in 36th place after a round that saw him make five birdies but also card a bogey, two doubles and a triple.
Scotland’s Lee Craig completed a wire-to-wire victory and was the only man to even come close to touching double digits under par. His closing level-par 72 was enough to secure a seven-stroke victory over England’s James Ruth, with fellow Scot Paul O’Hara taking third after both shot sub-par rounds to leapfrog Moriarty on the leaderboard.
