A County Roscommon woman has been honoured with a prestigious volunteer of the year award.
Jo Scutt from Ballaghadereen, County Roscommon has been recognised as Vision Ireland Shop Volunteer of the Year for her decade-long dedication and fundraising creativity.
During her time in the role, Jo has completed many significant fundraisers including marathon running and local charity events, greatly benefiting Vision Ireland.

Jo was honoured with the award at the second Annual Oireachtas Celebration of Achievement, held on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Hosted in the Dáil member’s dining room by Senator Martin Conway, the evening began with a meet and greet involving the award recipients and the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD.
The awards celebrated individuals and partners who have significantly contributed to Vision Ireland’s mission, impacting various aspects of everyday life.
Vision Ireland is Ireland’s oldest national agency for people who are blind and vision impaired, founded in 1931 as the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI).
Vision Ireland works with children and adults across the country through a range of supports and services which are designed to empower people who are blind or vision impaired to live their lives confidently and independently.
Vision Ireland provides practical and emotional support, rehabilitation services, and other training designed to help adults and children with sight loss to live independently.
The services are designed to overcome the barriers that impede independence and participation in society.
