Padraig Harrington is being well backed to add a second senior major championship to his roll of honour this week when he tees it up as third favourite in the field at the Regions Tradition.
BoyleSports has clipped the Dubliner into 7/1 from 15/2 to win this week’s event, the first of five majors on the senior calendar.
Harrington faces hot competition from defending champion and 7/2 favourite Steve Stricker, but already has one win under his belt this year and boasts strong course form having finished 2nd and 5th in his two appearances at the Greystone Golf & Country Club in Alabama.
Irish punters are eyeing a double assault on this week’s markets with Rory McIlroy set to tee off 6/1 favourite to put in the perfect prep for next week’s PGA Championship by winning the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. The North Carolina track holds fond memories for the Holywood man as it has hosted three of his 25 tour victories, including his maiden win in the United States back in 2010.
McIlroy leads a host of Americans in the betting including Xander Schauffele (17/2) and last year’s Wells Fargo champion Wyndham Clark (12/1), but a fifth career major is also being well supported for the world number 2. McIlroy is now 11/1 from 12/1 to end a ten-year streak without winning one of golf’s big four at next week’s PGA at Valhalla, scene of his last major victory in 2014.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Punters are pouncing on Padraig who has shown a liking for this week’s course and the Irish are eyeing double delight as Quail Hollow specialist Rory McIlroy ramps up preparation for next week’s big one.”
