Co Wexford tennis aces swing into action to support Irish hot shot Ashley

Mary-Ruth Tobin, Catherine Shanaghan, Ashley Leacy and Audrey Rochford (Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club) have qualified to play in the quarter finals of the Leinster League.

Ashley Wynne, Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club, Enniscorthy, is playing for Ireland in the Four Nations in Bolton, England and the ITF Tennis Masters over 35 in Lisbon, Portugal.

A huge crowd attended a fundraising night of tennis, fun and fine food at Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club in Enniscorthy Friday night to support club coach, Ashley Wynne ahead of her jetting off to compete in two international competitions.

Wynne is playing for Ireland in the Four Nations in Bolton, England and the ITF Tennis Masters over 35 in Lisbon, Portugal.

A mixed doubles American style tournament was held, whereby players played 25-minute matches with a different partner each time. After three matches at three different time slots on Friday evening, al the points were added up and the winners announced.

More than 55 people participated and the following were the winners from each slot: 5 p.m. Mary Ruth Tobin/Kalem Mahon, 6.30 p.m. Geraldine Wynne/Pat Kelly and 8 p.m. Reenie Kelly/David Looby.

Presentations were also made on the night to the winners of the Spring Doubles League: Ladies A Maria Brady and Fiona Burke, Ladies B Jacinta Kenny and Ashley Lacey, Mens A Ed Shallow and John Rochford, Mens B TJ Parle and Ross Fanning.

Afterwards everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue served up by club members.
