In an exhilarating match against Ireland in Dublin, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam marked his name in cricket history by becoming the most victorious captain in T20 internationals.

The game, which saw Pakistan defeat Ireland with a 7-wicket win, marked Babar’s 45th victory as a leader, pushing him past previous record holders Eoin Morgan of England and Brian Masaba of Uganda.

Babar scripts history

The match, part of a three-game series now tied at 1-1, highlighted Babar’s strategic acumen, underlining why he stands out among modern cricket captains. Before this series, Babar had amassed 42 wins.

His recent victories over New Zealand and now Ireland have helped him reach and surpass the milestone.

Pakistan’s performance was bolstered by an impressive partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan, who put up a 140-run stand to comfortably chase down Ireland’s total of 193.

Zaman’s aggressive 79 off 40 balls and Rizwan’s steady 75 not out were crucial in navigating the team to victory after an early setback in the innings.

Ireland had set a competitive target, thanks to Lorcan Tucker’s spirited half-century and Gareth Delany’s quickfire 28 off 10 balls. Pakistan’s bowlers, including Shaheen Afridi and Abbas Afridi, played key roles, with Shaheen taking three crucial wickets.

This record-setting win sets the stage for the series decider on Tuesday, May 14, promising another exciting clash.

As Babar Azam continues to lead Pakistan, he now stands as a benchmark for leadership in the cricketing world, with upcoming matches and the T20 World Cup 2024 offering him a chance to further cement his legacy.
