Euro 2025 qualifying: Republic of Ireland vs Sweden followed by Portugal vs Northern Ireland

Ireland
welcome Sweden to the Aviva Stadium knowing that, realistically, a win is
needed to keep any hope of automatic qualification for Euro 2025 alive. Narrow
defeats to France and England see Eileen Gleeson’s side
bottom of the group.

Sweden won the
bronze medal at last year’s World Cup but have started this campaign slowly
themselves. After drawing with England in the opener, they, like Ireland, fell
1-0 to France so will be looking to bounce back.

Since their
100% UEFA Nations League campaign in 2023, Ireland have gone four without a win
while Peter Gerhardsson’s side will be hoping to get back to the form that saw
them beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 10-0 on aggregate in their Nations League
relegation/promotion playoff in February

While Katie
McCabe is in the lineup after recovering from a game with Arsenal in Australia
on Sunday, Denise O’Sullivan and Ruesha Littlejohn are not fit to play.

For the
star-studded Swedes, McCabe’s Arsenal teammate Stena Blackstenius misses out
but there is quality all over the pitch.
