A picture shoot held in advance of India’s T20 World Cup campaign saw star Indian batsman Virat Kohli awarded the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year 2023 trophy. The award was a reflection of Kohli’s outstanding batsmanship all year long. With 765 runs in a single World Cup, Kohli had an amazing performance. Though India lost in the final game to Australia, Kohli was named Player of the Tournament for his exceptional efforts.

Virat Kohli is shown in an Instagram video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) standing with the T20 World Cup shirt of India. In addition, he proudly displays the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year 2023 trophy and dons the hat of the ICC ODI Team of the Year.

Playing 27 one-day internationals in 2023, Virat Kohli scored an incredible 1,377 runs at an average of 72.47. Eight fifty and six centuries made up his performance as key highlights. In the 2023 World Cup semifinal, against New Zealand, Kohli also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the first batter to score 50 ODI hundreds.

Virat Kohli reportedly asked for a little hiatus following the 2024 Indian Premier League before joining the Indian squad in New York. He could not thus play in the June 1 warm-up game against Bangladesh. Still, this match shed light on India’s possible starting lineup.

Though Yashasvi Jaiswal was available, India started with Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson. After an outstanding half-century by Rishabh Pant at No. 3, India sought to have a balanced left-hand right-hand batting order with players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya to follow. Samson is probably going to be replaced in the starting lineup by Virat Kohli when India play Ireland on June 5, which will mark the start of their ICC T20 World Cup campaign.
