India will face Ireland in their first match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday (June 5). The Group A match is scheduled to take place at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The Rohit Sharma-led side would like to come up with a big show against the Irish team to get off to a flying start in the ongoing shortest format megaevent.
India has a dominant record in T20Is against the European side and has won all seven T20Is played so far, of which one was in the 2009 T20 World Cup.
Ahead of the start of India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024, here’s a look at how India’s T20 World Cup 2024 stars have performed in T20Is against Ireland.
Rohit Sharma (C): Indian captain Rohit Sharma has played in three T20Is against Ireland so far, and with the help of two fifties, he has 149 runs to his name. He is India’s second-leading run scorer in the shortest format of the game against the Irish team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal: Yashasvi Jaiswal played in two T20Is against Ireland last year under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership and scored 42 runs with a strike rate of 123.52.
Virat Kohli: Batting superstar Virat Kohli has only managed to score nine runs in two T20Is played against Ireland so far. He was out for a duck in the first match played on June 27, 2018, and scored nine runs in the second match played two days later.
Suryakumar Yadav: World No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav has 15 runs to his name in two T20Is played against Ireland in June 2022 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.
Sanju Samson: With the help of one fifty (77), wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has scored 118 runs in three T20Is for India against Ireland.
Hardik Pandya: In four T20Is for India against Ireland, Hardik Pandya has scored 75 runs and picked up two wickets.
Shivam Dube: Shivam Dube scored 22 runs in two T20Is played against Ireland in August 2023.
Axar Patel: Axar Patel has played two T20Is for India against Ireland in 2022, but he was unable to open his account in one innings and failed to take any wicket in two innings.
Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep Yadav is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is against Ireland. He has dismissed seven Irish batters in two matches played against them in 2018.
Yuzvendra Chahal: Yuzvendra Chahal is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, and he has also picked up seven wickets in three matches against Ireland.
Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack in the T20 World Cup 2024, and he has six wickets to his credit in three T20Is against Ireland.
Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep Singh played two T20Is for India against Ireland in August 2023 and got rid of two batters.
Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj are three players from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad who haven’t played any T20I against Ireland so far.
