US fintech company North American Bancard (NAB) has chosen Limerick city as the location of its new centre-of-excellence which will create 54 new jobs.

The new facility will be responsible for developing the company’s portfolio of next generation risk management products and services. The investment in Limerick city is supported by IDA Ireland.

The new roles will include product managers, system architects, user experience designers as well as developers.

Chief risk officer at NAB Dr Christ Mascaro said the Limerick location facility will have a “keen focus on addressing the global issue of payments fraud”.

“The Limerick site represents a strategic pillar for NAB, and it would not be possible without the support of the IDA and meaningful partnerships within the city,” he said.

NAB was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Troy, Michigan. The company provides payment technology and handles over $100bn (€93bn) a year in transactions.

Enterprise Minister Peter Burke said this investment by NAB reinforces Ireland’s “thriving Fintech ecosystem”.

Executive director of IDA Ireland Mary Buckley said the investment “underscores the region’s exceptional talent and technical capabilities”.
