Next Manchester United Manager: Pochettino Still Favourite To Replace Ten Hag

Manchester United said that Erik ten Hag’s future would be sorted out last week, but the Dutchman starts a new week still in his job.

Beating Manchester City to win the FA Cup final, when the best betting sites had them as massive underdogs, threw a spanner in the works as it was reported the club would sack Ten Hag after the game.

The victory means Ten Hag has won a trophy in back-to-back seasons, more than Jurgen Klopp managed in the last two campaigns.

The club are taking their time with their end of season review, knowing the achievements of Ten Hag cannot be ignored.

An eighth place finish in the Premier League also won’t be forgotten easily as well as the style of football played.

It’s believed the club spoke to representatives of possible replacements about taking over at Old Trafford before the Wembley showdown. But will the Dutchman be given the chance to return for a third season?

This is a crucial summer for the club both on and off the pitch. Improvements are needed to the stadium and the playing squad needs a major shake-up.

A number of managers with big reputations are now available, which might just prompt the club to make a change.

Bookmakers are monitoring the situation closely and updating their odds on who will replace Ten Hag, if the Dutchman is relieved of his duties.

Manchester United Next Manager Odds

Southgate The Biggest Mover

Gareth Southgate named his England squad for Euro 2024 on Thursday, a day before his side lost their last friendly to Iceland 24 hours later.

A combination of both have seen Southgate’s odds cut from 9/1 last week to 4/1 joint-favourite on betting apps.

While the squad is full of promise going forward, questions remain about the defence that will be without Harry Maguire.

The shift in Southgate’s odds suggest bookmakers don’t think football will be coming home this summer, and he will be available for any club job earlier than if he took the Three Lions to the final on July 14.

Southgate’s contract expires at the end of the year and he insists his contractual situation has not been an issue ahead of the Euros.

Pochettino Waits For Next Chapter To Begin

Mauricio Pochettino was the 6/4 favourite to be Manchester United’s next manager, but his odds have drifted to 4/1. He’s still favourite, but he shares that tag with Southgate.

Pochettino is a free agent after his departure from Chelsea after just one season in charge.

The season started poorly for the Argentine, who managed to turn things around to finish sixth thanks to five successive wins to end the league programme.

Pochettino has plenty of experience of big-club management, including Tottenham, Paris St-Germain and Chelsea, who will play in the Europa Conference League next season.

If United are to make a managerial change this summer, then Pochettino might just get a call to replace Ten Hag.

De Zerbi Still After A New Job

On the eve of the final day of the Premier League season, Roberto de Zerbi announced he would be leaving Brighton.

The Italian got a brilliant send-off from the Brighton fans after their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at the Amex Stadium, and he was tipped to replace Ten Hag.

However, the passionate Italian is also being linked to vacancies elsewhere and it could come down to which club he chooses.

De Zerbi’s odds are back to 6/1 on football betting sites after drifting to 8/1 last week.

Tuchel Reported Not Interested

Reports emerged from Germany over the weekend that suggested Thomas Tuchel was not interested in becoming Manchester United’s next manager.

Perhaps the German already knows where his next job will be after his disastrous one season in charge of Bayern Munich, who finished third and failed to win a trophy in 12 years.

It could have been a better end to the season had Bayern not choked and conceded two late goals to Real Madrid in the closing stages of their Champions League semi-final, second leg.

Tuchel (8/1) has already won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, so that is an achievement that will impress potential new employers.

McKenna Commits To Ipswich For Now

Two days before the FA Cup final, it was reported that United had held talks with Kieran McKenna’s representatives about becoming the Red Devils’ next manager.

McKenna, who was the 3/1 second favourite on new betting sites not too long ago, led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions in his first managerial position.

But days later, McKenna committed his future to the Tractor Boys by signing a new four-year deal to keep him at Portman Road.

Signing a new contract does not guarantee McKenna will start the season at Ipswich, but his odds of 10/1 suggest he might.

Until the season starts, McKenna’s head could still be turned by the prospect of managing a big club like United.

Potter Still A Candidate, Despite Foxes Interest

Graham Potter remains on the list of candidates to replace Ten Hag, even though he has been linked with the vacancy at Leicester City.

Potter has been out of work for over a year now and the feeling is that he is now ready to return to football management.

The Englishman is looking to rebuild his career after an unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge, which produced just 12 wins in 31 games.

The odds of Potter becoming the next Manchester United manager have gone from 3/1 to 20/1 in the last couple of weeks.

Anyone who witnessed Potter’s work at Swansea City and Brighton knows he is a sharp thinker who can combine style with results and his coaching acumen is not in doubt.

Frank Might Fancy Old Trafford Job

Brentford finished their third Premier League season in 16th place, just two places above the relegation zone.

The 13-point gap meant relegation was never really an issue for the Bees, but it might suggest Thomas Frank has taken the club as far as he can.

Would he fancy a change of scenery at this stage of his career? Frank has some big decisions to make in the summer.

Next Man United manager

Brentford supporters wouldn’t stand in his way if the Dane decided to move on from the Bees, but could Old Trafford be his next port of call?

Frank’s odds remain at 25/1, which suggests interest in the Dane is cooling.

Zidane Stays On The List

Zinedine Zidane has been linked with United in the past, but he is 33/1 to make the move to Manchester.

The former France international won two Liga titles and three Champions Leagues across two spells at Real Madrid, where he proved adept at managing big personalities and keeping everyone happy.

Zidane’s tactical astuteness is often underestimated, but he is untested outside the unique environment of Madrid.

He has also been out of work for more than two years, which suggests he is not exactly in a rush to get back into management.

Hoeness Remains A Candidate

What a season it has been for Stuttgart, who finished the season second in the Bundesliga.

A 4-0 win at home to Borussia Monchengladbach meant they finished runners-up to the all-conquering Bayer Leverkusen.

It was Stuttgart’s best finish in over 20 years and manager Sebastian Hoeness deserves a lot of credit for turning the club’s fortunes around this season.

High-profile jobs like managing Manchester United may be offered to Hoeness (40/1) this summer, but he has a Champions League campaign to look forward to.
