Pakistan made a surprising change in their playing XI for their final game in the 2024 T20 World Cup clash against Ireland at the Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium at Fort Lauderdale in Florida on Sunday (June 16) as star pacer Naseem Shah was left out of the XI.
Babar revealed at the toss that the team made just one change from the playing XI that won against Canada, as Naseem Shah was left out and Abbas Afridi came into the side. Babar did not offer any explanation for Naseem’s absence, with no mention of any injury, meaning that it was a cricketing decision rather than one due to fitness issues.
Naseem is among the most talented young pacers across all formats in world cricket at the moment and has been in fine form in the tournament. He took five wickets in three matches at an impressive economy of 14.20, including a three-wicket haul against India.
Pakistan are playing their final game of the tournament having already crashed out of the tournament having missed out on Super 8 qualification with India and USA confirming their spots from Group A.
Ireland have also made one change with Ben White coming in for Craig Young.
