Rory McIlroy remains a popular 15/2 second favourite to bounce back at The Open Championship next month despite his late collapse at the US Open.
The world number 2 was in pole position to put an end to his ten-year major drought on Sunday at Pinehurst, but three bogeys in his final four holes allowed Bryson DeChambeau to clinch victory by the narrow margin of one shot following a miraculous up-and-down par on the last.
Only 4/1 favourite Scottie Scheffler is ahead of McIlroy in the betting for the final major of the season at Troon, with Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele rated 12/1 shots to continue a hot winning streak for Americans in the major championships.
DeChambeau’s US Open victory made it six consecutive major wins for the stars and stripes, although the European challenge in Scotland is boosted by Jon Rahm (14/1) and Scandinavian duo Ludvig Åberg and Viktor Hovland (both 16/1).
