LIMERICK CELTICS have created history for their club by winning both the U14 girls and boys Premier A Division All-Ireland titles after incredible weekends of tournament basketball in Gormanston, Dublin.
The U14 girls were first up in their race for the title as they battled it out against Meteors of Dublin in their opening game of the tournament, winning 48-35, with Robyn Walsh scoring an impressive 25 points for Celtics. This game was followed by another impressive victory over Tralee Magic and St Mary’s Castleisland to send the Celtic girls in the quarter-finals of the AICC’s.
Limerick Celtics winning streak continued from there beating Portaloise Panthers, 52-32, with help from Robyn Walsh’s 17-point haul and Emma Somers 15-points to send them through to the semi-final against Kilkenny Stars, who Celtics made light work of finishing their tournament on a high and winning the All-Ireland Premier A Division final against Dublin Lions, 59-29.
The following weekend it was the turn of the U14 boys from Celtics, who had an equally impressive tournament display as their female counterparts.
Celtics battled off against Drogheda Wolves, Éanna and BC Taurus in the group stages of the AICC tournament with three wins from three sending them into the quarter-finals against South Tipp Titans.Â
Yet again the quarter-final matchup was no competition for the U14 Celtics boys who ran out 52-28 winners with Hubert Gocek and Domas Kasparavicius scoring 20 and 17 points each.
Celtics progressed on to the semi’s to face off against Sligo All Stars and gaining another 51-37 victory booked their spot in the Premier A Final alongside Éanna.
In a much closer encounter compared to their group game the Dublin side tested Celtics who ran out victors on a scoreline of 61-58 claiming the double U14 girls and boys title for the club.Â
