A Laois gym has announced a temporary two week closure.
Portlaoise Leisure Centre is closing its gym is for renovations and installation of new equipment.
It is offering compensation to its many members by way of an extra fortnight’s membership.
The centre is owned by Laois County Council along with Portarlington Leisure Centre, both run jointly by Laois Leisure management company.
They state that the closure is effective from Monday, July 8 to Monday July 22.
They are installing new Freemotion gym equipment, new Keiser M3i Spin Bikes and also renovating the decor and adding new lighting.
“We understand this closure may impact your fitness routine. To show our appreciation for your patience and understanding, we will be adding two weeks to all Laois Leisure Portlaoise gym members. Thank you for your continued support as we make these exciting upgrades. We can’t wait to welcome you back to an improved and better-equipped gym,” the company states.
The closure does not affect the swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Fitness classes may be partially relocated out of doors.
“We are exploring options to facilitate both indoor fitness classes in our downstairs meeting room and outdoor fitness classes on our astroturf to keep you active,” the managment say in their statement.
Portlaoise Leisure Centre’s management company went into liquidation in 2020 with the loss of 30 jobs over lack of income, shortly after Covid forced its temporarily closure. It reopened in 2022 and hired new staff, after some €300,000 of public money was spent on renovations.
