Must read

Leona Maguire’s grandstand eagle finish at the Ladies European Tour’s Aramco Team Series London brought more than just another piece of history for the Cavan star who became the first Irish woman to win on the LET as she collected €69,435.75 in individual earnings.

It takes her within touching distance of €1 million in career LET earnings, and close to the €5 million mark in total earnings on both tours combined.

Lauren Walsh’s final-round 64 propelled her up the leaderboard and she almost upstaged her compatriot, but her consolation for having a chance at her first LET victory being snatched away in the closing stages was a cheque for €21,756.54, which, coupled with her T3 finish at the Swiss Ladies Open the previous week, takes her total earnings to €85,336.43 in her rookie LET season.

On the PGA Tour, the John Deere Classic which has served up more first-time winners than any other PGA Tour event did so again and this time it was Davis Thompson who made the breakthrough.

Along with his playing rights secured for another two seasons, he collects $1.44 million. Seamus Power finished in solo 17th and picks up $138,000 for his troubles, though he’ll need to bring his very best to Scotland next week as he’s in the last chance saloon to book his place on the tee sheet for the Open Championship a week later.

Walsh wasn’t the only Irish person to be well rewarded for a final-round 64 this week, as Robert Moran matched her feat at the Alps Andalucia and climbed to second on the leaderboard only to fall one shot shy of Brandon Kewalramani.

Moran collects €3,940.00 for his week’s work, but more importantly, climbs to eight in the Order of Merit rankings and within touching distance of one of five Challenge Tour cards on offer for the leading five in the Order of Merit at the season’s end.
