Equestrian may not be the most known sport in Ireland but there is a realistic chance of a medal at the Paris Olympics.
Daniel Coyle, from Northern Ireland, on Legacy is a strong contender in the individual jumping.
Coyle and Legacy have won a number of World Cup qualifying events and helped Ireland to the Nations Cup in Canada, which has put them in the medal conversation in Paris.
Cian O’Connor, on Maurice (that’s a horse, not a person), and Shane Sweetnam on James Kann Cruz (again, that’s his horse) are also in the individual jumping and the trio will also make up Ireland’s team in the event.
Abigail Lyle, who is from Bangor, and her horse on Giraldo will be Ireland’s sole representative in the dressage.
Ireland’s eventing team consists of County Down rider Susie Berry on Wellfields Lincoln, Sarah Ennis on Lady Action M and Austin O’Connor on Colorado Blue.
