TaylorMade launch P·7CB irons – Irish Golfer Magazine

Must read

As well as the launch of the updated P·770 TaylorMade have also launched the new P·7CB for 2025. The P·7CB irons are designed for consistent ball strikers and elite golfers who want a bit  of forgiveness to go along with a compact, control-oriented iron.

TaylorMade’s P Series irons have always been for more-accomplished golfers, players who want enhanced control and more feel. The P·7MB is a modern muscle back blade and the P·7MC is a solid muscle-cavity, while the P·770 and P·790 are hollow-bodied clubs designed as better-player distance offerings.

While both the new P·770 and P·7CB irons have the profile of a players iron with their thin top line and smaller blade, golfers will notice a significantly thinner, more compact shape in P·7CB.

Over the past few seasons feedback from both Tour staff and better players to TaylorMade pointed out a gap between the P·7MC and the P·770. Earlier this year both Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa tested the longer irons to blend into their sets and they were an instant success. Rory has gamed the 4 – iron since the Masters with a club just stamped “prototype”

“We designed the P·7CB with the better player in mind. In working with these players directly they told us, ‘give me precision, give me forgiveness, give me consistency, but do it in a compact head shape.’ The new P·7CB delivers a combination of feel and forgiveness in compact shape beyond anything TaylorMade has created in the past.” – Matt Bovee, Global Category Director – Irons and Wedges

Each of P·7CB head is forged using 1025 carbon steel, but TaylorMade mills two pockets into the sole of the heads. A longer pocket extends from the heel through the middle of the sole, and it is filled with a metal matrix composite (MMC) material that is one-seventh the weight of stainless steel. A small pocket near the toe is then filled with tungsten.

By removing the 1025 carbon steel and replacing it with a lighter metal, then concentrating extra weight in the toe, TaylorMade designers can counteract the weight of the hosel, pull the ideal hitting area into the centre of the face and in the long irons, lower the centre of gravity (CG) location. Both pockets are not visible on the iron to keep this iron as simple and sleek as possible to appeal to a better players eye.

TaylorMade has machined the hitting area and grooves in the P·7CB irons to ensure the face is perfectly flat making this face super workable and an anti-glare Tour Satin finish, fits in with the other P Series irons. The topline is slightly thicker than the topline of the P·7MC, and the blade length is slightly longer too, but it’s minute. The P·7CB also has marginally less offset than the P·7MC.

Turf interaction is critical for good iron players, and with a sole that is slightly wider than the bottom of the P·7MC, the P·7CB should work in and out of the ground quickly and easily for low-handicap golfers. As you would expect, the lofts of the P·7CB irons are very traditional with the 3-iron at 20 degrees, 6-iron at 29 degrees and the pitching wedge at 46 degrees of loft.

P·7CB are available for pre-order beginning July 31 and available at retail starting Sept. 6 at an RRP per iron of €230. SelectFit heads will also be in retail stores beginning July 31 for golfers that want to get custom fit. For more information, including custom options, visit TaylorMadeGolf.eu
