Castletroy Golf Club has announced details of the 2024 Senior Scratch Cup, kindly sponsored by Trade Electric Group.

The competition takes place on Saturday, 31st August.

First played in 1948, the Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup for the Major HK Murray Trophy is one of the oldest and most prestigious scratch cups in the country and attracts many of Ireland’s best amateur golfers each year.

The course, currently ranked in the top 100 in Ireland and measuring almost 7,000 yards off the back tees, consistently offers a stiff challenge to any player on the scratch cup or championship circuit.

The 2023 winner was Connacht Interprovincial and former Arnold Palmer Cup golfer, David Kitt.

Recent winners include 2023 Irish Close champion, Rob Moran, and former South of Ireland and Amateur Champion, James Sugrue.

The quality of former champions is exemplified by a unique roll of honour fewture seven GB&I Walker Cup representatives: John Burke, Jimmy Bruen, Max McCready, JB Carr, Tom Craddock, David Sheahan and Sugrue) as well as future professional stars, Liam Higgins, Des Smyth and Denis O’Sullivan.

A strong field is expected again this year with various representative golfers and in-form players from the 2024 Bridgestone Men’s Order of Merit expected to feature.

Entries are invited to Castletroy GC at (061) 335 753 (ext. 2) or by email at golf@castletroygolfclub.ie.

The handicap limit is WHS of 2.4 and confined to the lowest 72 entrants.

There will be a shotgun start at 9 am and 2.30 pm on the day.

The entry fee of €50 includes lunch.

The closing date for entries is 5 pm sharp on Thursday, 28th August.
