Met Éireann in Ireland summer weather u-turn with 24C sun blast on the way

Ireland looks likely to bask in sunshine and temperatures in the mid-twenties next week with the hottest day of the year so far likely to be recorded.

The prediction comes after a miserable few weeks on the weather front which included shock thunderstorm warnings earlier this week.

Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel heralded the return of good weather to Ireland in his latest forecast.

He said: “At last, there’s something a little more summery to look forward to. Temperatures early next week are expected to rise to the mid twenties, possibly even a little higher where we see sunny spells. Indeed, we’re likely to see the highest temperature of the year so far.

“But the big question is, how long will this good spell of weather last? The improved temperatures really begin on Saturday afternoon, with Sunday through to Thursday then expected to be rather warm with Ireland under the influence of a much warmer airmass than of late.

“This will ensure that we experience a rise in temperatures, but also high pressure will ensure we see more sunshine than of late also. It won’t be wall to wall blue sky, and there will be some cloudy periods, especially for Atlantic coastal counties, but all of us will see some warm sunshine.”

The good weather may be short-lived because he says, “beyond Thursday models indicate that the weather will return to a more mobile Atlantic dominated weather pattern, with a return to showery conditions with fresh westerly winds and temperatures falling back to average or below average in some locations.”

Met Éireann, meanwhile, predict “warm and humid weather developing,” but added that “some thundery showers are possible towards midweek.”

They say “overnight rain will clear into the Irish Sea early on Saturday morning with sunny spells and scattered showers soon following. The odd heavy shower will occur later. Highs of 17 to 21 degrees, best values in the Southeast. West to northwest winds will be mostly moderate in strength.

“Dry with clear spells and light southerly breezes [on Saturday night]. Some mist locally. A little cool in places with lows of 7 to 11 degrees.

“Any mist will clear early on to leave a dry day [Sunday] with warm spells of hazy sunshine, possibly cloudier later further west. Highs of 18 to 23 degrees further east, in light to moderate southwest breezes. Generally dry overnight but with the chance of patchy mist and drizzle in places. Lows of 11 to 15 degrees in light southwest breezes.

“Some uncertainty [on Monday], but at present a good deal of dry weather is expected with warm sunny spells and just light southwest breezes. However, low cloud and patchy rain will likely affect Atlantic coastal areas, where it will be coolest. Highs of 17 to 24 degrees, warmest across the Midlands, Southeast and East.

“Overall dry and calm [on Tuesday] with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. The odd shower may occur later. Warm and humid with temperatures widely rising to the low 20s.

“Again warm and humid with temperatures in the low, possibly mid 20s [on Wednesday]. While there will be a good deal of dry weather with hazy sunshine, some thundery showers could break out.”
