Popular Irish castle and four star hotel to feature on new TV show in the UK

The beautiful Castle Durrow in Laois will be seen by hundreds of thousands across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday evening as it will feature on the new television series on More4, Country House Auction.

Supported by Tourism Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen, the four-part-series follows various antiques as they are repaired, valued and then bid for at a live auction.

The episode’s auction is held by Sheppard’s Irish Auction House, in Castle Durrow with over 1,200 items that went under the hammer during the auction, which was filmed in August of 2023.

An exciting episode is promised, with incredibly rare items to make appearances.

The Castle Durrow episode will feature the auctioning of items such as a solid-silver punch bowl, a rare Egyptian amulet, a John Constable sketch, Percy French paintings, a Carrara marble sculpted chimney piece and a stunning Tibetan meteorite iron Phurba.

Buyers ranged from professionals seeking items for state-owned country homes and museums to interior designers, private owners restoring period homes, and collectors.

The episode also follows owners of Castle Durrow, Tessa and Robin Leidig, showing the multiple challenges of hosting events in such a historic property. 

The star of the episode will be the sacred Tibetan meteorite iron Phurba, which sold for €140,000.

The episode will be aired at 9pm on More4.
