Roscrea Golf Club Notes

Men’s Captains Prize: Michael Rosney is the winner of this year’s Men’s Captain Aidan Doran’s Prize. Played on Sunday in great weather conditions and after 36 holes the leading 3 were Kevin O’Connor 135, Flan Lyons 140 and Leo Dooley also 140; and so, to the 9 hole play-off for the top 15 players where we had the usual misfortunes of missed putts, balls out of bounds etc. However, it was found that Michael Rosney, Flan Lyons and Kevin O’Connor were all tied at 174. After all the calculations were made, second 18 etc. Michael Rosney emerged as a worthy winner.

At the presentation, President Martin King welcomed everyone including Captain Aidan Doran’s family. He thanked Aidan for again taking the difficult job of Men’s Captain – ‘Aidan was a hard worker and a great ambassador for the Club’.

Captain Aidan in reply said he was honoured to be Men’s Captain once again. He thanked the following: Men’s Golfing Affairs, especially Aidan Shanahan (comp, sec), Fabian Jones (BRS), John Ryan (entries), Joe Warren and Martin Donnellan (running the successful auction), John Quinlan (greenkeeper) and lastly his dad, Michael Doran for introducing him to golf. He congratulated the winner and all the other prize winners.

Winner Michael Rosney said he was thrilled to win this prize and he would remember this for the rest of his life.

We then had finger food from our caterers The Gourmet Foodie, and lovely music from Johnny Keegan to round off a great occasion.

Team News: Congratulations to our Diageo Mixed Foursomes Team who defeated Thurles Golf Club 4 – 1 on Thursday last August 15 on a home and away basis. Now looking forward to the Semi Finals.
