Rory McIlroy is rated a 2/1 shot by BoyleSports to end his major drought in 2025 after the Hollywood native recorded a top-10 finish in the this year’s PGA Tour season finale, the Tour Championship.
Already a four-time major winner, McIlroy last tasted success in one of golf’s blue riband events in the PGA Championship in 2014 but a change to next year’s playing schedule for the world number three has triggered support for his drought to end.
Three bogeys in his final four holes at Pinehurst this year saw McIlroy lose out on a second US Open title in what he described as the toughest day of his career, but he is hopeful that reducing his schedule next year to 18-20 events will prime him to flourish in golf’s biggest events.
World number one Scottie Scheffler meanwhile, is an odds-on 10/11 shot to add to his major haul having scored seven times this year, highlighted by a Masters victory and an Olympic gold medal. The New Jersey native is also well-fancied by punters to record back-to-back FedEx Cup titles at 11/4, ahead of dual major winner Xander Schauffele (11/4) and McIlroy (8/1).
With the Masters the one jewel missing from McIlroy’s golfing crown, he is a 9/1 shot for next year’s tournament where he could complete the career grand slam, with Scheffler (5/1), Schauffele (12/1), Aberg (12/1) and Rahm (12/1) all tipped to contend for the green jacket.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It was heartbreak for Rory McIlroy at Pinehurst this year, but with a radically changed playing schedule on the horizon for the Holywood man, punters are confident that Scottie Scheffler won’t have it all his own way in 2025.”
