NIFL Chief Executive Gerard Lawlor said football can’t be left behind

Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) Chief Executive Gerard Lawlor has insisted that if the British government is going to provide funding to help redevelop Casement Park, minus Euro 2028, they must match that financial commitment for the upgrading of football stadiums across the country.

The political fall-out has not stopped since Friday’s joint letter from NI Secretary Hilary Benn and Sports Minister Lisa Nandy to Stormont Communities Minister Gordon Lyons declaring the British government had “regrettably decided that it is not appropriate for the UK government to provide funding to seek to build Casement Park in time to host matches at Euro 2028”.
