It’s been a magical season for Kerry star handballer player Dominick Lynch who has broken a number of spectacular records.
Last month the Glenbeigh player won two medals at the World championships in Limerick and last week end he reached the magical 40th All Ireland medal when he won the All-Ireland Hardball Masters singles title in Croke Park.
Lynch had a convincing 21-2 and 21-11 victory when he defeated Denis Creton from Roscommon. In the Group stages of the competition Lynch defeated David Stanners from Wexford 25-4 and in the second game he defeated Billy Caddell from Antrim 25-3 to reach the finals.
“Naturally I was delighted to win this title. Hardball is the most ancient of our games in Ireland and is played in the 60×30 court. As the name suggests, the ball used is small and hard and made from cork and leather.
“Padding on the hands is required due to the hardness of the ball that can travel at speeds over 100 Km per hour,” said Dominick.
This latest victory by Lynch saw him win a unique and historic four All Ireland titles in a single season and while other players have won the four titles over two seasons, Lynch becomes the first player to win all four in a single season.
“It had been a memorable season so far. I trained hard this year aiming to win all four titles. In March I won the Silver Masters 40×20 and added the 60×30 title in June.
“More recently I won the One Wall in Roscommon and last week finished the job in Croke Park. It’s great for our club and keeps the Glenbeigh name on the national handball scene.”
