Maynooth University trio David O’Malley, Simon Walker and Aodhagan Brady are joint-leaders after the opening round of the Irish Intervarsity Championships.
All three shot 68 in Bundoran on Wednesday and lie one shot ahead of Thomas and Liam Abom (both Maynooth University) while Cormac O Muirithe (University of Galway) and Cian Harkin (Maynooth University) are both on level par.
O’Malley opened his week with five birdies and an eagle on his card but a closing bogey to go with a quartet of bogeys earlier in the day. Walker was -5 for his front nine but had four bogeys on his back nine. Brady had four birdies on his front nine and closed with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17, while he had four bogeys.
Two Maynooth University teams are also at the top of the standings in the team event on -3.
