Deirdre O’Neill is the co-founder of Hertility, a company often lumped into the ever-growing category called fem-tech, but Deirdre takes issue with this.

Deirdre revealed just last week that actress Emma Watson had come on board as an investor to Hertility, describing her in a LinkedIn post as a “dream ambassador”.

On this episode of the Irish Examiner’s ieBusiness Podcast, in association with PwC, Deirdre argues that fem-tech has become an umbrella term that includes varying business that have a connection to women’s health.

Deirdre instead described Hertility as a “diagnos-tech” company that provides women with information about their fertility through at-home testing kits and published research including the effects of vaping on conception.

Hertility was founded by three women; Deirdre, her twin sister Dr Helen O’Neill and Dr Helen O’Neill and Dr Natalie Getreu.

On this podcast, Deirdre told Cáit Caden about why she left her career in law to establish Hertility with her fellow founders, building the business in the UK and creating a presence in Ireland.

The Cork native also spoke about collaborating with Riley, an Irish sustainable period products company, to publish research on menstrual and reproductive health in the workplace. Riley’s Lauren Duggan appeared on the first season of The ieBusiness podcast.

Deirdre joins the list of other guests on this season of The ieBusiness Podcast that that delves into the journeys of Irish business leaders who have achieved remarkable success on the global stage.

Each episode will feature an in-depth interview with a different leader, exploring their background, career trajectory, key challenges, and insights into the business world in their adopted country.
