She popped the question to her girlfriend of five years, Naomi, on a beach in Maspalomas in Gran Canaria last Wednesday.

The Gogglebox fan favourite said she had been planning the proposal since June and had even been practising the engagement at work by putting the ring on her colleague’s finger.

Despite practising, the nerves took over and she put the ring on the wrong finger and then later lost it temporarily in the sand.

While speaking of the engagement on Gogglebox, she said she had to “doggy paddle” to find the ring.

“It was a disaster. Went on the beach, do it on the beach, it was grand. Got down on the knee, started crying, it was all good,” she said.

“Put it on the wrong finger. Then I took it off the finger to put it on the right finger and I dropped it in the sand.

“And I had to doggy paddle through the sand.”

Danielle Grufferty popped the question to her long-term girlfriend on a beach in Gran Canaria.

The only family members who knew about her engagement plans were her brother Alex, who kept the secret for three months, and sister Georgina.

The happy couple revealed the wedding planning is currently in the early stages and will be left to Danielle’s mam Laura to figure out.

Her dad Des Grufferty said it would be a “big party” in the Grufferty house.

“We’re delighted for her and the two of ye. Youse are a nice couple, so youse are,” he told his daughter.

Danielle first appeared on the Virgin Media show when she was just 12 years of age.

Her and Naomi first met while playing football as kids but didn’t get to know each other properly until Danielle became friends with Naomi’s cousin.

She revealed she had to chase after Naomi for two months before she convinced her to go on a date.

The tenth series of Gogglebox Ireland airs at 9pm tonight on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Play.
