Late heartbreak for Caldwell, Kearney and Nolan – Irish Golfer Magazine

Must read

Eleven Irish teed it up at the Second Stage of DP World Tour Q-School and after the action spilled over into a Monday finish, Royal Dublin amateur Max Kennedy was the only Irishman to advance to this week’s Final Stage.

The qualifier at Desert Springs Resort in Almeria had to be prolonged to Monday after inclement weather and there was disappointment for Liam Nolan, Niall Kearney and Jonathan Caldwell who all narrowly missed out on a place in the Final Stage.

The cut for the top-23 and ties fell at eleven-under with 26 players advancing in total but unfortunately for Kearney and Nolan they fell a shot shy on ten-under despite final rounds of 67 and 70 respectively.

The pair had to play the waiting game after their final rounds while Caldwell went into the Monday finish in control of his own destiny on eleven-under-par.

However, a costly back nine of 38 where he carded six pars and three bogeys on the tenth, twelfth and seventeenth saw him card a disappointing round of 74 to miss out by two shots on nine-under-par.

A level-par 72 saw the re-emerging Paul Dunne miss out by five shots on six-under-par.

At Isla Canela Golf Links, Kennedy carded a final round of 69 to progress through to the Final Stage but there was disappointment for Mark Power, Cormac Sharvin, David Kitt (AM), Paul McBride, Rowan Lester and Ronan Mullarney who will have to try again next year for a DP World Tour card.

Gary Hurley and Dermot McElroy will tee it up at the Final Stage on Friday after missing out on DP World Tour cards at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final.
