Goodell’s latest comments come after the Irish government confirmed last month that the Emerald Isle was under ‘active consideration’ by the NFL to host a regular season game in the country.

Speaking with the NFL Network the boss said that up to eight games could be played away from US soil next season.

He went on to mention that Ireland is one of those potential countries.

He said: “We will certainly be back in the UK and we’re also looking at the potential of another game in the UK area, in Ireland possibly – that’s a possibility.

Goodell admitted last month after the Jacksonville Jaguars played the Chicago Bears in London that there is “no doubt” Dublin will host a regular season game at some point.

Prior to the commissioner’s statement Minister for Sport Catherine Martin and Minister of State Thomas Byrne confirmed that plans were afoot for it to happen.

Minister Martin said: “That is under active consideration.

“I think we’ve seen the absolute benefit in real terms of College football so you could imagine that this would do.

“It’s under active consideration.”

And Junior Minister Byrne added: “There’s a number of those projects under active consideration, including World Rally.

“That was discussed before and our officials are in ongoing conversations with Rally Ireland but also with NFL.”

College American football games in Dublin have drawn huge numbers.

Fans travelled for the past three years with matches already contracted for both 2025 and 2026 too.
