Hunter’s 68 in vain as Ireland fall to Bangladesh

Must read

A half-century from Amy Hunter was not enough to prevent Ireland falling to a five-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in their second ODI in Mirpur.

Ireland fell 2-0 down in the series – the final ODI is on Monday before three T20 matches – as Bangladesh reached their target of 194 with 37 balls to spare.

Batting first, Ireland made 193 for six as Hunter scored 68 off 88 deliveries with eight boundaries, helping Ireland recover from early setbacks that had them on 35 for two.

Orla Prendergast scored 37 in a stand of 91 with Hunter, and Laura Delany added 33 before both were run out.

Bangladesh opener Fargana Hoque made 50 while Sharmin Akhter contributed 43 and captain Nigar Sultana 40 to the hosts’ total of 197 for five. Delany took two for 43.
