CCPC advises consumers to use Homebase vouchers

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has advised consumers who have vouchers for Homebase to use them this weekend or risk being left out of pocket.

Earlier this month, the High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the company behind the chain of DIY stores in Ireland.

It is understood that the move has not impacted the staff working in the eight outlets here.

Following reports of unfulfilled orders and confusion around consumer rights in Homebase stores in Ireland, the CCPC said it has acted to ensure consumers are protected and their rights upheld.

It said Homebase liquidators have committed to accepting gift vouchers during the provisional liquidation phase and the UK administrators have committed to the liquidators to honour outstanding orders.

“Consumer calls and emails to our helpline raised concerns for CCPC consumer protection officers,” said Brian McHugh, Chair of the CCPC.

“We contacted Homebase’s liquidators late last week to ensure consumers continue to be protected while stores are operating,” he added.

The CCPC said consumers who have outstanding orders for kitchens and other installations should be contacted by Homebase early next week.

In the UK, Homebase called in administrators who immediately sold up to 70 stores there, as well as the brand and its intellectual property to The Range owner CDS in a so-called prepack deal.
