Bangladesh v Ireland: Ireland win first T20 in Bangladesh series

Must read

Ireland beat Bangladesh in the first game of a three-match T20 international series in Sylhet.

Ireland registered an impressive 169-5 after a great partnership between Leah Paul and captain Gaby Lewis.

Orla Prendergast took three wickets and Arlene Kelly managed two as Ireland produced a terrific comeback after a bright start to batting by Bangladesh.

The second T20 game of the series takes place on Saturday with the final game next Monday.

Ireland came into the game off the back of a 3-0 one-day international series defeat to Bangladesh earlier this month and with a side that had an average age of just of less than 23.

They won the toss and decided to bat first, but Amy Hunter was out after just 10 runs.

Lewis, who replaced Laura Delany as Ireland captain ahead of this tour, stepped up to bat next and produced 60 runs from 42 balls before she was bowled out by Fariha Islam Trisna.

It was Paul who stole the show for Ed Joyce’s side however, as she managed a 79 not out off 45 balls, including two sixes and 10 fours as she got her first T20 half century.

Prendergast and then Delaney exited early but Paul and Lewis’ total gave Bangladesh a high target to reach.
