Ireland will face Armenia, Hungary and either Portugal or Demark in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Irish side have been drawn in a four team group taking place between September and November 2025. The group winner progresses to the World Cup with the second placed team entering the play-offs.
Heimir Hallgrimsson’s will face the winners of the upcoming Nations League quarter-final between Denmark and Portugal. The winner will be the top seeds in the group.
“It’s a group that definitely the teams will take points from each other” explained Hallgrimsson.
“Looking at it, I don’t think there will be a run a way winner” added Hallgrimsson. “I think it’s kind of an equal group.”
Ireland last met Armenia in the 2022 Nations league campaign losing 1-0 in Yerevan and winning 3-2 in Dublin. Whereas, Ireland last played Hungary in June of this year, winning 2-1 in the Aviva stadium.
