The word “infrastructure” means “what lies beneath”. This can include underground pipes and wires or the roads and rails that carry us around. After more than a decade of warnings, the Government appears to have finally woken up to the harm being done by our late and badly planned infrastructure. So why do we continue to fail to deliver?

A surprising number of Irish people still think activities like agriculture or tourism, or even shopping and catering, are the source of our national income when the reality is industry, communications and services account for the overwhelming majority.
