Amazon has said it will launch new dedicated store website in Ireland, Amazon.ie, in 2025.

Currently, most Irish customers must use Amazon sites based in the UK or across Europe, with the retailer saying the new website will eliminate customs charges and lead to faster delivery times for customers.

In 2022, Amazon opened a new warehouse and distribution centre in Dublin which employs 500 people. Speaking at the time, the online retail giant said the facility would be a stepping stone to the launch of an Irish-specific Amazon website.

The company currently employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda, with Amazon adding that the new website will lead to additional jobs with details to be announced in the coming months.

Over 1,000 small and medium sized Irish businesses already sell on Amazon, the retailer said, with these SMEs generating over €150m in export sales in 2022.

Speaking on the announcement, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke TD, said, “I am delighted to see Amazon continuing to grow its presence in Ireland.”

“The launch of an Irish store will enhance customer experiences and provide a significant platform for Irish SMEs to expand their online presence and grow their business. This announcement is a significant reaffirmation of Amazon’s commitment to Ireland.”

“Our teams across the country are so excited about this next chapter in our story here, and are looking forward to delivering for our customers through our new Irish store in 2025,” said Darragh Kelly, Ireland General Manager for Customer Fulfilment at Amazon.
