So it turned out to be another hugely successful day for the travelling Irish, spearheaded by that man Willie Mullins.
Starting off with two consecutive wins – Ballyburn in the Novices’ Hurdle and Fact To File in the Novices’ Chase – Mullins then watched El Fabiolo slip up and was made to wait until the last race of to seal win number 100.
As fate would have it, Mullins’ son Patrick took his Cheltenham Festival victories into triple figures, with Jasmin De Vaux in the Champion Bumper.
Rachael Blackmore celebrated her triumph in the day’s feature race, the Champion Chase, on Captain Guinness, and there was at least some consolation for the British trainers as brothers Dan and Harry Skelton enjoyed a double – in the Coral Cup Hurdle and the Grand Annual Chase.
