Athletics Ireland has announced that for the first time in its history, membership has surpassed 70,000, closing the year with a record 70,320 members.
This represents a 9% increase on 2023 figures, a testament to the growing popularity of athletics across Ireland.
“Thanks to the incredible success of our athletes in Rome and Paris, we’ve seen a remarkable boost in membership this year,” said Dermot Mc Granaghan, National Club Development Manager.
“Credit must go to our clubs and volunteers, whose unwavering dedication and hard work throughout the year have been the cornerstone of this achievement.”
“Clubs have recruited a record number of coaches this year through Athletics Ireland’s coach education programmes, and their efforts have helped us reach this historic milestone of surpassing 70,000 members, a record-breaking moment for Athletics Ireland.”
Breda McDonald from Ballyroan Abbeyleix and District AC officially became Athletics Ireland’s 70,000th member of 2024.
The surge in membership reflects the continued strength of grassroots athletics and the inspiring performances of Irish athletes on the world stage.
