Bank of Ireland’s app and online banking down as Christmas shopping reaches fever pitch

Bank of Ireland is having technical issues.

Customers of Bank of Ireland have expressed huge frustration after Bank of Ireland’s mobile phone app and its online banking facility went down.

The outage has occurred on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, just as Christmas approaches.

The bank said it was aware of issues for customers accessing its mobile app and 365 Online.

“We are working to resolve this as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience,” Bank of Ireland said

One annoyed customer said she was unable to access the mobile this morning.

“It won’t let me in. The app goes as far as ‘running security checks’ and then freezes,” she said.

Others reported on social media accounts that they could not log in to online banking.

One person posted: “It is telling me I don’t have my devise set up to my account. I do. I used it 10 minutes ago.”

Two Fridays ago PTSB bank was hit by a big technical issue had been experiencing delays in sending and receiving payments.

Its customers were unable to receive payments, including wages, pensions and other transfers.

Customers also couldn’t make payments, which means some direct debits and standing orders may not get processed on schedule.

IT outages are a regular occurrence for banks in this country.

Earlier in the same month PTSB admitted that it was “experiencing a technical issue which is intermittently impacting our mobile app and desktop services.” The issue was later resolved.

Issues when mean customer services are not delivered have to be reported to the Central Bank of Ireland, which regulates banks here.
