On the closure, the Carey family posted on Facebook;

“This marks the end of an era and the beginning of a well-deserved retirement for Tom.

Tom has dedicated countless hours and lots of love to our family shop, and most importantly to his loyal customers, young and old. For over 100 years the shop has been in the Carey name, and more than just a business, Kincora Stores has been a cornerstone of our community.

So, if you would like to get your last slice of Tom’s famous ham or a bag of his delicious sweets – come and say farewell on Saturday 15th June. Pop into the shop anytime between 2 and 6pm. Enjoy your retirement Tom… You have earned it…”.

Locals have expressed their best wishes on the Love Portarlington Facebook page.
