Bogey free Wentworth weekend history for Harrington – Irish Golfer Magazine

Must read

The beauty of Pádraig Harrington is that even at 53 years of age with his Hall of Fame berth already secured, he is always chasing something.

Not satisfied with teeing it up at Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship to make up the numbers this week, Harrington battled valiantly to make the cut and he was rewarded with a small slice of career history to add to his glittering list of accolades.

The three-time major winner carded weekend rounds of 66 and 68 for a share of 12th place, his highest finish on the DP World Tour in two seasons, but for the first time he registered back-to-back bogey free rounds of golf at Wentworth.

“You do it sometimes on easier courses but I certainly haven’t put together back to back rounds here bogey free at Wentworth,” said Harrington speaking to Meridian Media’s Denis Kirwan after the final round.

“That’s a nice thing I am seeing some positives in my game and looking forward to getting the best out of myself over the next couple of weeks, have the Dunhill and then four on the Champions Tour.”

Harrington’s share of twelfth was good enough for a twelve-under total which put him alongside his fellow countryman Shane Lowry who rounded off a frustrating week with a round of 67 which included a near hole out from the green side bunker on 18.

It was a week that was bookended by rounds of 67 but back to back rounds of 71 ended his chances heading into Sunday.

“Not bad, it’s another decent week, lot of good golf in there what more can I say but more solid golf but no real fireworks but a frustrating week really,” Lowry told Kirwan.

“Lovely start on Thursday and then you’re going out playing for pride today trying to finish as high up the leaderboard as I can but I did OK.

“The shot on 18 was difficult and I played it lovely. It could have gone horribly wrong! Look, another few ranking points, Race to Dubai, whatever. Ultimately I am looking for bigger things than that.”
