Maynooth University’s Jordan Boles and University of Limerick’s Lucas Lyons share the lead at the R&A Student Tour Series event in Belvoir Park Golf Club.
Both players carded three-under rounds of 68 to hit the front alongside Fior Lorenzo of University of Venice.
Boles put together a fine round, getting out of the traps quickly with birdies on the first and fifth before he bounced back from his only bogey of the day on seven with birdies on the ninth and fifteenth.
Lyons was more erratic in his 68 with six birdies, including two in his last four and three bogeys.
Meanwhile in the women’s event Maynooth University’s Kate Lanigan is just two shots off the pace after a two-under 71.
Lanigan, last year’s Order of Merit winner, was three-over after nine holes after dropped shots on the fifth, seventh and ninth.
However, she responded brilliantly with a back nine of 32 that included birdies on the 10th and 12th, an eagle on the par-5 15th and a closing birdie.
Hanna Nilsson of Halmstad University lads the way on four-under after a round of 69.
Twelve students from Maynooth University are competing this week including Irish Close champion Thomas who is two-over after a 73, a shot behind his brother Liam.
