Douglas star Sara Byrne has packed her Golf Ireland gear for the last time and she is determined to make her last international bow a winning one at this week’s Home Internationals in Scotland.
Byrne will tee it up in Murcar Links as part of an experienced lineup alongside Aideen Walsh (Lahinch), Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle), Emma Fleming (Elm Park) and Kate Lanigan (Hermitage) while Anna Foster (Elm Park) and Aine Donegan (Lahinch) both return after being unavailable last year.
The 23-year-old is beginning her farewell month at amateur level which will also include a Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup cap in Sunningdale.
Byrne said the emotions of playing for Ireland for the last time hasn’t hit her yet but admitted the final day of the Home Internationals on Friday may be an emotional rollercoaster.
“I said this to my dad the other night it all just hit me that I was packing my Golf Ireland gear for the last time,” said the Arnold Palmer Cup star.
“As of right now I don’t think it will be emotional but I know that last day will be an emotional rollercoaster. Saying goodbye to that environment will be hard because obviously I have grown up doing this every summer and playing this every summer so it will be a hard goodbye.
“Hopefully I will see a few of the girls on tour soon so I am ready to go and am really looking forward to wrapping it up in a good way.”
