Following six rounds of home and away fixtures, Castle GC and Co. Meath GC competed in the 2024 Barton Cup final over 29 September and 13 October.
Castle won the draw to decide on the venue for the first leg and opted to play the first 5 matches at home.
In challenging windy conditions for both teams Castle had a slender 3 to 2 lead going into the second leg in Co. Meath GC.
Both sets of managers made a small number of changes to their line ups for the showdown and with much calmer conditions, the large crowd of supporters that turned up were treated to some fantastic match play golf played in a very sporting manner.
Co. Meath won the first match on the 17th to tie the overall score at 3 to 3 however the middle 3 pairings from Castle each secured a point to reach the magical 6 points and be crowned Barton Cup champions for the 3rd time in the Club’s history.
The Barton Cup was first competed for in 1905 and 134 clubs entered this years competition.
Following this years win, Castle have joined an elite group of just 9 clubs that have won the Cup on 3 or more occasions.
The Castle panel ranged in age from 15 to 70 and with handicaps ranging from +2.3 to 16.4, highlighting that the Barton Cup is a competition for all.
