‘Complete disaster’ – Nicki Minaj fans furious over Dublin gig as star leaves them waiting in the rain and plays for under an hour

Must read

The top US rapper (41) played in Malahide Castle last night as part of her ‘Pink Friday 2 World Tour’. It was her first time performing in the capital since 2015.

Some fans expressed outrage on social media after the Anaconda and Super Bass singer was an hour and a half late for her show, leaving fans standing in the rain, and then played a set of just 45 minutes.

Today’s News in 90 Seconds – July 7th

One attendee posted to the Facebook page of organiser’s MCD Productions, where they labelled the concert as “ridiculous”, saying they finally left the venue in the belief Minaj was not going to show.

“There was a man on trying to distract the crowd and waste time and it was so obvious. We asked security at a quarter to 10 was she coming or not and they said nope that they were told she wasn’t so we left,” they wrote.

The gig-goer added: “Then heard she actually did show up after 10… Standing in the lashing rain and she shows up that late for fans!! I want my money back!”

Another attendee branded the concert as a “complete disaster”, saying that people are calling it “the worst concert ever”, after the star “played for 40 minutes”

One person, writing on X tagged Ticketmaster, who sold the tickets, which were priced around €100 each, saying: “I hope people at Nicki Minaj tonight at Dublin will be getting a refund.”

Tagging Minaj, the person added: “Nicki Minaj should be ashamed of herself coming on just before 10pm and an hour and a half late, sings twice and goes off to change with 15 mins left before curfew, no respect for fans.”

Another fan wrote to MCD Productions on Facebook, stating that it was “absolutely disgraceful behaviour by Nicki Minaj showing no respect, loyalty or commitment to her fans”.

“Gig was supposed to start @ 8 and she didn’t show up until 10 when many people had already left…

“Shame on MCD for stalling fans and allowing this gig to go ahead if the “star” wasn’t bothered to show up on time.

“MCD need to remedy this situation by providing all ticket holders with full refunds,” they wrote.

Another attendee said that a “refund or a partial refund is due”.

“She was due on at 8 and didn’t come on till 9:57? Along with 3/4 costume changes, that took up a solid 5 minutes.. worst gig,” they wrote.

The tour also sparked outrage from fans last month, when Minaj offered her “deepest and most sincere apologies” after her Manchester concert was cancelled at the last minute after she was arrested in Amsterdam.

The 41-year-old star was detained for hours at Schiphol airport on suspicion of “possessing soft drugs” before being fined by Dutch police and permitted to continue her journey.

That show was abandoned at 9.30pm, when Minaj was due on stage, with 20,000 fans inside the venue at the time when they were informed the concert had been called off.

Meanwhile, her show tonight in Bucharest, Romania, has been cancelled due to security concerns.

Minaj said: “Out of concern for the well-being of our team and myself, I have been advised by my security detail not to travel to Romania’s festival tonight due to safety concerns regarding protests in the area.

“I look forward to seeing you all at another time. As a mom, I have to make sure I’m making sound decisions for me to make it home to my son and for my team to make it home to their families.

“To not heed the advice of security at this time is simply not what I think I should be doing. I love you and thank you for your understanding and support.

“I am very excited to see my fans this Friday in London for another very special headlining show at Wireless Festival.”

MCD Productions and Ticketmaster have been contacted for comment.
