Coughlan moves joint-top in Bridgestone race – Irish Golfer Magazine

Must read

There is nothing to separate the top two in the men’s Bridgestone Order of Merit as Paul Coughlan’s (Castleknock) victory in the Munster Men’s Amateur Open draws him level with West of Ireland champion Keith Egan (Carton House) at the summit.

Coughlan sat just 80 points behind Egan in third place following his run to the semi-final in County Sligo last month and continued his fine form in Cork, carding rounds of 72, 70, 67 and 69 on his way to a brilliant four-shot win on the south coast.

In picking up the win the Westmeath man added the full complement of points, bringing him to 350, level with Egan at the top. Egan did enough to retain his place though with his -3 finish enough to see him finish fourth in the tournament adding another 100 points to his total.

Following his second-placed finish in the Munster event, Brian Doran (Millicent) makes his first appearance on this year’s Bridgestone Order of Merit going straight to fifth on the table.

The men do not have long to wait for another chance to add to their tallies with the Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open Championship taking place this week in County Sligo.

The Ulster Amateur Stroke Play Open Championship is the next opportunity for the women to close in on Aideen Walsh at the top of the women’s Bridgestone Order of Merit with that event teeing up in Clandeboye on 27 May.
