Damien Duff Gets Unexpected Shoutout From English Football Legends | Balls.ie

Must read

Shelbourne F.C. stormed to their first League of Ireland win in over a decade, as the Premier Division ground to its most nail-biting finish in years on Friday evening.

Unsurprisingly, euphoric would do little to describe Damien Duff’s delight as his side sealed the league with a late winner against Derry on Friday night.

From calls to Jose Mourinho to a shoutout from Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer it’s fair to say that Duff’s success has garnered quite a bit of attention at home and abroad.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer shoutout Damien Duff’s Shelbourne

Chatting on their podcast The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were discussing the success and failures of some of the Premier League’s managers when the topic of Damien Duff came up.

Discussing whether Shearer had ever crossed paths with the former Chelsea and Newcastle star, Linker and Shearer dished out their compliments to him and Shelbourne for their recent league win.

We did cross paths, he was in the Newcastle squad when I was manager for the eight games. Obviously he was at Blackburn and Newcastle and then I worked with him for that short spell at Newcastle.

The pair went on to congratulate Duff on his league win, with Lineker deeming the news worthy of a mention: “Did you know he won the Irish league with Shelbourne…I thought that was worthy of a little mention”, and Shearer applauding the work the Dubliner has been doing.

Absolutely, he’s done well there, he’s done really well there.

While knowing Damien Duff it’s unlikely he’ll be getting too excited about the shoutout, it’s not every day the League of Ireland features on any of the world’s biggest football podcasts.
