Datapac overhauls Irish Equine Centre’s IT infrastructure

Irish IT solutions company Datapac has completely overhauled the Irish Equine Centre‘s (IEC) IT infrastructure to better support the provision of horse health and wellbeing services such as laboratory diagnostics, disease surveillance, and biosecurity research.

Kildare-based IEC’s new networking, computer and storage infrastructure has been build on Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) hardware and software, providing robust cloud data back-up and recovery and the ability to restore data within minutes.

Advanced de-duplication has been employed to reduce the size of data storage by up to 90%, significantly lowering IEC’s cloud hosting costs and increasing productivity for its 69 employees, while Datapac’s Manager Threat Ops service provides 24/7 monitoring, response and neutralisation of cybersecurity threats.

The IEC also serves as a teaching centre for third-level veterinary students, who will be given individual accounts and storage space with Microsoft Office 365. Datapac has also upgraded the Wi-Fi, and the changes will free up in-house IT resources.

“The Irish Equine Centre does such important work to promote horse health in Ireland, and our technology infrastructure overhaul is providing the proactive support and increased capabilities to continue to advance these vital services,” said Colin Chapman, business relationship manager with Datapac.

“Our solution has future-proofed the IEC’s IT systems which will help the centre to grow and innovate in line with evolving industry demands.

“We are looking forward to building on our relationship with the centre as it continues to develop its cutting-edge resources.”

Datapac’s overhaul coincides with the launch of IEC’s Pet Vet Lab, a new service offering a personalised probiotic to household pets derived from advanced screenings.

“We had worked with Datapac in the past, and knew that its skilled team was best placed to deliver on our key objectives as technologies continue to advance,” said Michael Mahady, IT manager at IEC.

“The flexibility and high level of data protection provided by the HPE Simplivity platform is of the utmost importance, as secure backup and business continuity is crucial to enable us to continue to roll out our services and resources.

“Furthermore, Datapac’s solution provides the benefits of a smaller storage footprint while retaining the operational horsepower of a much larger system to support the early detection and management of diseases.

“Reliable access to Datapac’s experts is invaluable and gives us the peace of mind to focus on delivering value-adding projects for the centre.”
