Dundalk boss Jon Daly is hopeful of having experienced defender Andy Boyle back at his disposal for the visit of Galway United to Oriel Park on Friday night.
The one-time Republic of Ireland cap hasn’t featured since helping the Lilywhites to a 1-0 win over Sligo Rovers before the break on June 13 having picked up a hamstring problem in training.
However, speaking to The Argus on Monday, Daly confirmed that the 33-year-old centre back had trained earlier that day and had a chance of returning to action against the Tribesmen barring any setbacks this week.
“Boyler has trained today in a modified capacity and he trained yesterday in a modified capacity so hopefully he gets through that with no breakdowns or anything and he’s available for Friday because I think it would be great to have his experience back,” said Daly.
While Paul Doyle is facing at a spell on the sidelines with the hamstring problem picked up in the early stages of the 4-2 league win over Drogheda United, Daly is hopeful of having another midfielder back sooner rather than later.
“Paul is going to be out for a few weeks. I couldn’t give you a time on that just at the moment,” he added.
“Then Dara Keane is not a million miles away which would be a big boost for us as well. He’s not one I’ve seen because he has been injured since I’ve been here but I seen plenty of him when he was at UCD and I really liked him as a player and getting to know him now as a person, he’s a really good guy and someone that just wants to get himself back fit as quickly as possible.
“I think he is probably a couple of weeks away so you’re probably looking at the Pat’s game for him to be potentially available for in terms of minutes,” said the manager.
