Tennis Ireland are to take over the lease at Dundalk’s former Ice Dome.

Tennis courts could be on the way to the former Ice Dome in Dundalk, if the new tenant of the building is anything to go by.

The national online database, the Building Control Management System has recorded a commencement notice for “internal modifications and alterations” to the former Ice Dome building to facilitate new tennis courts and associated works.

The lease holder listed on the commencement notice is Tennis Ireland, and its chief executive, Kevin Quinn.

The former Dundalk Ice Dome at the Retail Park in Dundalk, has been vacant since being bought by Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) in 2014.

It appears it has now been leased to Tennis Ireland, and looks like being a new home for indoor tennis in Dundalk.

DkIT had for some years been trying to secure a lease arrangement for the Ice Dome, including entering negoiations with the Irish Ice Hockey Association (IIHA) in 2018, negotiations which fell through in 2021.

The works planned by Tennis Ireland have been designed by Gavin Dunne, with an address of Block 4, Level 3, Quayside Business Park, Mill Street, Dundalk, according to the commencement notice.
